How Long Does a Bottle of Smelling Salts Last?
The lifespan of a bottle depends entirely on the type of salt and how well you maintain it.
Single-Use Ampules
Typical Lifespan: One-time use.
Key Factors: Snap and discard immediately.
Dry Bottled Salts
Typical Lifespan: 3–6 Months.
Key Factors: Potency stays high if kept in a cool, dry place.
Wet/Activated Salts
Typical Lifespan: 1–2 Months.
Key Factors: Extremely potent, but "burns out" faster once activated.
3 Tips to Make Your Bottle Last Longer:
The "Quick Cap" Rule: Ammonia gas is highly volatile. Open the bottle, take your sniff, and immediately screw the cap back on tight. Even 30 seconds of exposure to open air can significantly weaken the chemical reaction.
Avoid Excessive Heat: Leaving your gym bag in a hot car will cause the ammonia gas to expand and leak through the seal, "killing" the bottle in a matter of days.
The Shake Method: Before opening, give the bottle a quick shake to agitate the salts and bring the gas to the top for a fresh hit every time.
